Tonsai Bay Resort, Ton sai Beach Thailand

Tonsai beach is the place to stay and climb in high season. It's a 5 minute boat ride from Railay beach, or a 20 minute jungle walk. It retains some of the laid back magic of the old days, and is mostly a collection of bamboo style huts. Tonsai Bay Resort is the most luxurious accommodation there at the moment, lying at the base of the cliffs, a minutes walk from the beach.

By Tonsai standards the place is opulent luxury. All the rooms have air conditioning, hot water a fridge and satellite TV. Being Tonsai though, during low season there is only electricity from 5:30pm to 8:00am. A welcome drink awaits your arrival.

Facilities

There are many surrounding coffee shops, restaurants, bars and stores. All of them good. For more information check out our forums. There are also several different "Health and Beauty Spas" in which you can get a fantastic massage after a day of climbing, and perhaps a manicure while you are at it. The Freedom beach bar is possibly the best place in the world to watch sunsets you could not imagine.

As I said Tonsai Beach is a climbing mecca. The beach however is not really a swimming beach, and the picture above is at high tide. You can swim at high tide, but the water drains out exposing the reef at low tide.

Legend has it that 15 years ago the whole beach was owned by a mad Australian, who then tried to sell it to club med. Club Med arrived to sign, but it was low tide, and they couldn't land. The owner then had the insane idea that he could remove the reef by dynamite. Several fruitless months later and several boxes of dynamite, he had managed to create a narrow channel for his boat. After that he disappeared into the jungle and was never heard of again...
Although at times inconvenient, the reef has protected Tonsai in many ways...

New Years Gala Dinner and Peak season Conditions
Between 21 Dec and 5 Jan, the minimum length of stay that can be booked is 5 days.
All Guests staying over the 31st of Dec will be charged 2,000 Baht per adult and 1,000 Baht per child for the New Years Banquet Feast.

Transfers / Transport
Transfers from Krabi airport to Railay Beach are available for 1500 Baht each way per person. Transfers are also available from Phuket airport to Railay beach for 3500 Baht each way per person. After 6:00pm there is an extra 200 Baht charge per transfer.

Location

Tonsai Beach is just around the hump from Railay Sunset beach. You can walk over from Sunset beach, or you can take a boat. Be warned that when the tide is very low, it may not be possible to get a boat. There are some tide tables here which may come in handy...

Booking

To book a stay in our bungalows please fill out the booking form below. It is a good idea to book several months in advance during high season as we do get very full.

Once we have received your booking we will email you confirmation of the rooms availability.
The email will contain a link to our secure credit card payment gateway. You will then have the choice of paying a deposit on your booking with either a VISA or a MasterCard.
Our credit card gateway is implemented with 128 bit encryption in conjunction with the Bank of Asia.

If after you have paid your booking, you wish to cancel, then you may do so up to a month before arrival with a cancellation fee of 10% of the total accommodation cost.
If your booking is in peak season, which runs from Dec 20 - Jan 10, then we require 2 months notice.
If your booking is in high season, which runs from Nov 1 - April 30, then we require 1 months notice.
If your booking is in low season then we only require two weeks cancellation notice (a cancellation fee of 10% still applies).
If you do not cancel within the required time limit we may be unable to provide you with a refund.

In addition we are now providing refunds for natural disasters. If a natural disaster occurs and your cancellation notice has expired, we will provide a refund of 75% of the booking, or reschedule your booking (depending on customer preference). Natural disasters are limited to Tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, comet strikes and the end of the world. To put things in persepective as far as natural disaster go, there has only be one Tsunami mildly affecting Krabi in recorded history, and that was in 2004.
