Players left Canadas Olympic orientation camp in Calgary knowing the road to proving they belong in Sochi begins now. Coach Mike Babcock wanted each player to know what it would take to make the team, but its up to general manager Steve Yzerman and his staff to start evaluating once the regular season gets underway. "The final scouting for the management group to put the final roster together begins immediately," Yzerman said. Thats a lot of pressure all around, when the expectation in Canada is nothing short of a gold medal. Team Canadas management group has a representative from every division -- the Boston Bruins Peter Chiarelli, the Detroit Red Wings Ken Holland, the St. Louis Blues Doug Armstrong and the Edmonton Oilers Kevin Lowe -- so the spotlight will be bright. "I think its going to be on your mind fairly often, whether youre being asked about it or youre playing against guys who were at the camp, its going to come up," Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby said. "Its always in the back of your mind, but I think if you just focus on playing well for your own team and making sure you have a good first half, then everything kind of takes care of itself." In the immediate future, players return to their preparations for training camp. Canadas coaches and front-office personnel have jobs to do as well, but theyll stay in touch regularly, mostly on conference calls. "Well arrange our schedule over the next week or so to get ready for the start of the regular season," Yzerman said Tuesday evening. "Well get together as a group early November to narrow things down a little bit and talk about what were seeing and make sure were all in constant communication and get organized from November to mid-December and make our final decisions at that point." The focus will be on monitoring the 47 players invited to camp, even though anyone can work his way into the Olympic conversation with a strong enough start. Yzerman doesnt consider anyone who was in Calgary a "long shot." "Well keep an eye on everybody but focus on particular teams, particular games, particular players that were deciding on," he said. "There was a few guys we dont feel the need to watch. But we know what they can do and theyre going to be on this team, assuming theyre healthy." Yzerman estimated that, conservatively, there were eight or nine locks to make it. Crosby, Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews and defenceman Duncan Keith, Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber, Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty, Tampa Bay Lightning centre Steven Stamkos, Boston Bruins centre Patrice Bergeron, New York Islanders centre John Tavares and New York Rangers winger Rick Nash seem to fit that bill. Putting together the rest of the roster could be a painstaking process, considering Canadas depth. Weber wants no part of that. "Thats why Im the player, theres too many tough decisions," he said. "You go down the list and everybody deserves the chance. Thats why theyre here. Theres even guys that arent here that probably will get a good look during the season. Were very fortunate in Canada to have a big selection, but definitely some tough choices." Yzerman expects to have the roster figured out by mid-to-late December. The deadline for all countries to submit is Dec. 31. Between now and then, plenty could change Team Canadas potential makeup. "Theres a lot of could-bes, but I think the first half of the year just has such an impact on whos on the team," Crosby said. "Im sure theres some guys in mind, but therell be guys who have standout first halves, and will make it tough not to be selected. So I think were going to see here in the first half who really shows they want to be part of it." Karl-Anthony Towns Jersey . Or at least on everyone elses expectations. Costa Rica followed up its surprise win over Uruguay with another World Cup stunner on Friday, beating four-time champion Italy 1-0 to secure a spot in the next round and eliminate England in the process. Minnesota Timberwolves Jerseys . Its a blessing and a burden for nine sons of former NHL players who are all expected to be taken in the first four rounds of the draft this weekend. http://www.basketballtimberwolvesshop.com/Cheap-Kevin-Garnett-Timberwolves-Jersey/. PETERSBURG, Fla. Tyus Jones Jersey . James Jones got his turn Sunday. And the lift he brought, combined with the expected playoff showings from LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, have the Heat off and running in these playoffs. Andrew Wiggins Jersey .Martin Caceres marked his return from injury by scoring in the 3-1 win at Napoli and he believes Juventus sent out a warning to the rest of the league with that result. We go out on the pitch every game looking to give our all, Caceres said.SAN ANTONIO -- Tony Parker is still thankful for the role players who helped carry San Antonio to its last NBA title in 2007. There was Robert Horry, a seven-time champion and official finals good-luck charm if there ever was one. Michael Finley, who was hitting 3-pointers at a much better rate in those playoffs than he did in the regular season that year. Fabricio Oberto, who probably never had a play called for him but found ways to get things done. The Spurs had a Big 3 then, the same one that they have now. But three is rarely enough, and thats been proven once again in these NBA Finals. Kawhi Leonard and Boris Diaw have been exactly what San Antonio needed in this matchup against the Miami Heat, and might be the two biggest reasons why the Spurs are one win away from their fifth NBA championship. The Spurs lead these finals 3-1, and will look to end Miamis reign in Game 5 at home on Sunday night. "If you want to win championships, obviously you need a Big 3," Parker said. "But you need your role players to play great too. And every time we won championships in the past, the Big 3, we played great, but we had great role players. ... If you want to go all the way, you need the whole team to play great." Thats what the Spurs are getting. Parker is leading the Spurs in scoring, Tim Duncan is leading in rebounding and the Western Conference champions are outscoring Miami by 62 points so far with Manu Ginobili on the floor -- so yes, the Big 3 is doing its part. But when the Spurs took control of the series by winning Games 3 and 4 in Miami, Leonard led the charge by averaging 24.5 points on 68 per cent shooting. And Diaw has 23 assists so far in the series, more than anyone else and none probably better than his behind-the-back offering out of the post that set Tiago Splitter up for a dunk in Game 4. Theres already talk that Leonard could be in line to win MVP of the finals. In an absolutely not-shocking development, he wanted no part of that talk. "It feels the same for me as any game going into it," Leonard said of the anticipation level for Game 5. "All Im thinking about is playiing.dddddddddddd Im not worried about what if we win or lose, and we just want to go out and play." Such is the Spurs way. The makeup of a player who perfectly fits into the San Antonio system has remained unchanged for the better part of two decades. He values team play over any individual accolade. He never says too much, particularly about himself. He stays in the moment, avoiding the urge to look ahead or behind. Leonard and Diaw meet all those characteristics. "San Antonio is playing great," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "Theyre moving the basketball. Theyre exploiting where were normally good, so we have to do a better job. Even when weve made adjustments, theyve still been able to stay in a rhythm and a flow." Its hard to remember now that Diaw couldnt get minutes with the 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats -- a team that finished with the worst record in NBA history -- in part because then-coach Paul Silas was frustrated with Diaws penchant for passing the ball instead of taking shots at times. So the Bobcats waived him late that season. The Spurs picked him up and in Game 4 of these finals, Diaw had more assists (nine) than shots (six). Go figure. "He really has a high basketball IQ," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Diaw. "I think he raises the level for everyone. At the defensive end, hes pretty heady, not the quickest guy in the world, but really smart. Does his work early and understands whats going on. At the offensive end, he can score inside and out, and he passes the ball really well. Hes a consummate team sort of guy." Diaw is just the third player to have a game with at least nine rebounds and nine assists during these playoffs, with Oklahoma City stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook being the others. For his part, Diaw said hes never cared about scoring. If the team scores, thats good enough for him. "Its just moving the ball, playing with everybody," Diaw said. "There is nobody really just watching. Everybodys involved, and everybody gets the ball at some point. So its been good." Good, indeed. One more win, and these Spurs officially become great.
